Welcome to November

Hey Guys,

Trying a different type of blog, checking in, recapping last month and talking about the future and the month ahead.

First up - October

My favourite month of the entire year! Honestly this year my professional life took a bit of a nose dive and I lost my job at the beginning of the month. Saying that October is still my favourite month, but it's definitely cast a little bit of a shadow. At first I had a load of job interviews and interest, unfortunately I'm either too qualified, or not qualified enough which when you're living in a world where everything is getting more expensive, including our rent, it's frankly a bit shit.

Onto the fun of October, I always try and full my month with fun activities and watching loads of films, but also like to slow down and appreciate said activities, which I definitely managed for the first half of the month! I made my pumpkin head in TWO days (which feels like forever ago now), went to the Pumpkin Patch, took some lovely photos with my pumpkin head, and just enjoyed the pumpkins!

I visited 3 different National Trust properties this month, first up was Attingham Park because my wife was determined to visit and do the upstairs tour which was closing on the 1st of November (it's gone into review now to see if they'll keep it open). Honestly I really hope they do because it was one of the best tours I've ever gone to with the National Trust. Seeing the private apartment of an American Business man and antique collector, in a light you'd never normally get to see!

Next up was Benthall Hall, a site I'd never been to before, the outside was used in Enola Holmes as her family home - be warned it does not really look like that home! But it was definitely interesting.

Finally at the end of the month, a couple of our friends came down to visit after we haven't seen in 6 years, so we took them to see Powis Castle, which is always a lovely property to see and it was amazing to see how many of the flowers were still in bloom! And the yew and box hedges! Highly recommend it as a day out! Taking our friends to see some culture, we also took them to see Hereford Cathedral, with the Mappa Mundi and chained library - the only library of this type to survive with all its chains, rods and locks intact!

So to wrap up October, I got sick for Halloween! As always I've come down with a flu-like cold for the last couple of days. Halloween itself was spent curled up on the sofa, falling asleep and feeling sorry for myself 😅. I had a good October, the beginning felt intentional, while the second half felt like it slipped by celebrating my anniversary and seeing friends.

Next Up - November

So, I still don't have a job, and currently there are no jobs in Marketing in my area. So applying to Universal Credit I go. The jobs market is definitely making me feel depressed, I've noticed it in my failing sleep schedule, insomnia and overall lack of desire to do stuff - which did make it so much harder to enjoy October. I don't want to continue to fall into that pit, so I'm returning to a work-like schedule, but what will I be doing?

Well, I have a camera, I have photography skills and a passion. I am going to start my own photography company. It feels weird typing that, I've said it to a couple of people, but it's not something I've really shouted about yet.

I want to create beautiful cinematic style photography, that feels timeless and like you've stepped out the pages of your favourite book. Local to me is Hay-on-Wye, and I'm offering fun photoshoots in Hay, exploring the bookshops - I'll be your best bookish friend, exploring everywhere and finding cool books, while also taking some amazing photos that you get to keep!

Okay sales pitch over, I'm currently working on my website and chatting to a few people on what I need to do, hopefully, if I get accepted, I'm going to take part in a 2 week course looking at becoming self employed. So this month is going to be getting my butt in gear, still going to enjoy the month and season, but this month I need to focus.
