December has entered the chat…
Hey Readers, Writers and Dreamers,
I said I was planning on making this a habit, and look at this, two months in a row! So what’s happened this month? After October being an honestly terrible month, even for all the fun, seeing old friends and celebrating Autumn and Halloween, but feeling depressed and not very hopeful.
This month has been filled with lots of “work” and hyper-fixations. So what have I done? Well, after deciding I’m starting my photography business, I had to work out what I needed to do, to make it happen. I’ve had business ideas in the past, but they’ve never really gone that far, and I’ve never done it “right”, this time, I really want to make this succeed, so I very much want to do this “right”.
So, first up, I went looking online for support, at first I looked at The King’s Trust, I’ve heard great things, including their Enterprise Course – which sounds AMAZING. Unfortunately, the course isn’t available in my area, and frustratingly that extremely limits what resources and funding you can access. While I understand that they’ve had to prioritise funding, the frustrating part is that if I lived 15 minutes to the right, I would have full access to everything, and unfortunately, that 15 minutes doesn’t mean I suddenly have a lot more prospects.
However, I used the frustration to look further for support and found the government funded Kick Off into Business Scheme. These people offer free, government funded courses about starting businesses, needless to say I signed up. Currently, as I’m typing this, I’m partway through my second week and I’ve already learnt so much! Most of my concerns about doing this right were understanding the legal side of things, and understanding is things were financially viable for me, and understanding tax – I only mostly understand tax now, but that’s more than I knew a couple of weeks ago.
So what’s next? You might have noticed that I’ve been working on my website, and hesitantly, I think we’re almost there, as I’m writing this, I need to finish writing all the packages and fix my services page. Which I think should be finished by the time I post this – so what do you think? Would you be interested in booking me? Other than the website, my next challenge is marketing, ironically I’ve worked in marketing for the last three years, so it should be easy right?
See you at the end of the month for a little wrap up for the year and a bit of goal setting for 2026!
